Fogelsode S2 #10: Back At It!

About two months ago, I put a foot down weird on a sketchy 360 and broke the third metatarsal in my right foot.  Thankfully, my recovery was smooth and painless, with constant entertainment and good times that my friends and family brought!  Not to mention, I got a killer cast-tan out of it!  I got cleared to start easing into riding two weeks ago, so I spent a week building up strength riding cross country, and started jumping the week after.  I’ve been collecting GoPro footage along the way, with some clips during my recovery, my x-rays, a bit of cross country riding, and finally jumping and downhilling again!  It feels absolutely unreal to start riding again and I couldn’t be happier!  Enjoy!

In February Cob and I headed down south in the X-Fusion Battle Bus with Theo and John for a seven day film trip in southern California.  The video came out today on Pinkbike, and Theo killed it to say the least!

Fogelsode S2 #8: Fun Week in Santa Cruz

It’s been an awesome week around here, with the sun shining and friends like Christian in town.  We took advantage of the weather and trail conditions to get in a fun day of riding big bikes.  Another day, Jeff and I had a cool little sesh at the step-up, before heading over to Post Office.  The classic sundown-seshes have become routine this time of year, but what’s new are some of the younger riders like Jared, Simon, and Fin shredding with us.  Just a week ago they were doing run-ups into the line and now they’re flowing through with style and even throwing a few tricks!  Stuff like that always gets me stoked to see!

Age: The big 30

Riding Since: Well I have always had a bike as a kid and a teenager. Then somewhere in my teenage hood I took up skateboarding and didn’t really play with bikes again till I was able to afford my first “big girl” bike. I got a Rocky Mountain Element XC bike and played on that till I realized I was gonna need a much burlier bike to play on the trails I wanted too! And basically for the last 5 years riding as played a big part of my life.

Current Bike(s): Banshee Scythe, Banshee Rune and a Banshee Morphine and a Legend on the way!
Riding Style: I play around in a bit of everything. Mostly downhill but I like a good xc adventure and spend some time playing on the dirt jumps and pump tracks.

Racing Highlights: Finishing all 7 BC Cup races in my first season of racing without major injury.

Fogelsode S2 #7: Epic Ride Time

After watching too many Epic Meal Time videos on YouTube, Iggy and I decided to get creative when it came to making breakfast!  Leaving the house with satisfied stomachs, we met up with Allen Stoddard and Conner Kuhns out on the trails.  We had a good time on the evening trail ride, enjoying the great weather and trail conditions.  We even learned a few new lines that we’d never tried before.  Enjoy!

Fogelsode S2 #3: Zip Lines and Dry Trails

I got the chance to go on a local zip line track through the redwoods a few weeks ago, and it ended up being crazy!  It was a really neat experience traveling through the forest with an entirely different aspect.  Iggy, Clay, Bryce, and I rode the local trails quite a bit that week, enjoying the dry conditions.  It’s been dry for so long that there’s a nice thin layer of silt over the hard-pack so you can get nasty with the drifts.  It can definitely get squirrely though, as we all had our close-calls.  We got to bust out the hardtails later for a fun little evening sesh at Mike’s house, which was a good time mixing it up.  Overall it was just another good week riding bikes with the crew!

Banshee Riders Podium at Penang DH Challenge 2010

While our Elite riders busy battling it out in Korea in today's Asian Continental Championships (DH), our team members who stayed behind were busy racing in the Penang Downhill Challenge, the 4th race in our Malaysian DH Super Series.

Our Banshee riders dominated the Expert Category podium with a 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finish.

A Couple of Vids

I’ve really been enjoying being back home, getting to have fun with all my buddies that I hadn’t seen in a while.  We’ve been bringing the GoPro around with us and came up with this!

Set your Sag!

The most important thing to get right when setting up your shock is to get the sag right... get that right and your 80% done, then you just have to dial in the damping settings.

So, here are some graphs showing the Suspension Sag vs. Shock Compression for each of our full sus rigs.

A lot of people think 30% sock compression = 30% sag, but that is not normally the case, it all changes due to leverage ratio curves. Hopefully these graphs I made up will help you tune your bike in more accurately.

Phil S, has bought many different frames / bikes from Freeborn here in the UK

He finally settled (for now!) on a Mythic Scythe Freeride frame, after purchasing a "DH bike" from us, and finding it 'overkill' for the UK

He owned a Wildcard in the past, and we recommended the Scythe as a "slacker / squishier WC"

Already, the cool kids on Pinkbike are saying it looks like a "Batman build!"

Jack Fogelquist's New Scythe

Last week I was in California staying with Jack, riding some local spots like the famous step up and epic DH trails, as well as shooting a bike check with photos from from Justin Brantley.

Jack's new bike arrived while I was staying at his place last week after Sea Otter. So we built it up at his local bike shop the next day and hit the local trails (Which are AMAZING!). I crashed out on the first day (woops) and bashed my elbow up so spent most the time filming, then helping Jack edit the footage together. Justin was on hand doing what he does best by taking some great photos in the tricky lighting conditions of the forest.

We had a great couple of days filming Jack enjoying his new big rig, but nobody was smiling as much as the Fogel who was loving being back on a big bike, and finding himself riding harder and faster than ever before.

Urban DH Racing in Brasil

Hi Jay and Keith,

It’s cool to tell you Kbelinho’s news about 2010DHU Race in Brazil, He won this epic competition some years ago, and this year he got hard players like Mick Hanna, Polc, Markolf, and many other good riders....Kbelinho took 6th with 1:01 min, riding his Scythe very fast down the big stairs, you can check the vídeo that was live last Sunday during the main sport program in Brazil, Globo Sport. Enjoy!
