Chris Boffa @ Oakley - Legend

We get a lot of industry people asking us about bikes. The people in the know, know what bikes to ride. Chris at Oakley emailed a while back and asked about pricing on a Legend. I traded him a Legend frame for a dozen pairs of goggles and a rain check on a burrito.

His bike looks awesome:

And at just under 37lbs before a new titanium spring and seat he had this to say "… super stoked on how she came out. Haven’t weighed it yet with the ti spring or tioga seat…but should be around 36-36.5 hopefully. More importantly the bike is ridiculously solid and rails EVERYTHING!"

Mike gets POD ...

Mike Montgomery is in todays Pinkbike POD. He is not actually on a Banshee in the picture but he is still kind of a big deal.


And just when you thought the Banshee - Mike Montgomery relationship could not get any more amazing or special Banshee goes and custom paints the rest of Mike's bikes for the 2011 season. Mike has not even seen pictures of his new rides. I thought I would share them with everyone at the same time. Bikes ship Monday (Sunday for you in the West) ... I will give you all Mike's address so you can try to intercept these beauties before he gets them.

2011 Australian National Downhill Championships

Hey all, I have just returned to Brisbane after competing in the Aussie National Champs at Eagle MTB Park in Adelaide South Australia. This was a fantastic week away with Team Banshee Australia members and support crew all staying in the same rented accommodation at a former railway station now converted to accommodation in the Adelaide Hills.

We arrived on Tuesday mid morning and commenced practice that afternoon on a track that had been changed slightly to make it even more technical. The dry conditions had the track running very loose with powder like dirt and small sharp rocks creating a few issues with flat tires. Once again I managed to break a Hope Pro2 hub axle (that's now 7 in about 12 months!!) but fortunately we were carrying a spare and managed to get going pretty quickly. Seeding for Elite and Under 19's was held late Friday afternoon and I managed a clean run to take out 4th position for the following days race.

Racing commenced at 4pm on Saturday and the dark rain clouds started to roll in but fortunately, not much rain fell during the races. My race run was clean however; the track was not running as fast as predicted and times were only slightly improved (if at all). I finished the race in 4th place and was very pleased given that the 3 riders in front of me included current Junior World Champ - Troy Brosnan.

The final round of the Aussie National Series takes place in Shepparton Victoria on 20 March in conjunction with the Oceania Championships and I will be keen to do well to secure a top 5 finish overall. Steve mathews' Legend MkII beat down test!

Hey guys,

So the other day I did something I should have done a while ago - full thorough inspection of the Legend MkII frame. This frame has seen a full season in Whistler, including 70+ days in the park and probably another 10 outside the park, plus riding as much as I can for the last 3 months since I've been back in Aus. I'm ~90kg (200lbs), ride reasonably fast and am certainly not easy on my bike.

So what did I find? Absolutely nothing wrong. Still on the original bearings, they're probably rough to the touch by now but there's no play and when you move the swingarm from the axle you don't feel anything unusual. There's no play. Nothing is cracked, despite my best efforts, including some really f#*king hard landings (like the kind that broke the Mk1 haha!).

So Keith, full points for the structural work. In the meantime I've watched mates write off numerous other frames, and I'm pretty stoked that the MkII hasn't let me down in the slightest. I look forward to seeing whatever you come up with for the Mk3, whenever that may be!

Banshee Legend podiums in 16th Asian Mtb Championship-- AGAIN!

Ausanee Pradupyard- Number 3 in Asia!

Congratulations to Fakawi Banshee team riders Ausanee (riding for Thailand) and Adam (riding for Malaysia) who competed in this year's Asian Cycling Confederation's Asian MTB (DH) Championships in Jecheon, Korea. Both our team riders qualified and were selected to race against the best riders in asia.

Ausanee, who also podium-ed in last year's ACC, won the bronze medal in the women's elite category on her Legend mk1.

Adam came in 6th in the men's elite finals on his Legend MK2.

Banshee Riders Podium at Penang DH Challenge 2010

While our Elite riders busy battling it out in Korea in today's Asian Continental Championships (DH), our team members who stayed behind were busy racing in the Penang Downhill Challenge, the 4th race in our Malaysian DH Super Series.

Our Banshee riders dominated the Expert Category podium with a 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finish.

Legend Wins Gold in Malaysian Games!

Fakawi Banshee Team rider, Stanly Jalip JR, blew away the competition in the XIIIth Malaysian Games recently to grab the Gold medal in the men's Downhill event.

Stanly will also be racing in our upcoming Banshee Kiara Rage downhill race in Kuala Lumpur! Want a piece of this guy? Come race with us this July 25th!

My name is Mitchell Ace Hayden, I am from Kamloops B.C. and I am 18 years of age. I can’t really sum up my riding style because I like to ride everything. My old Thesis

I got a request the other day for a copy of my thesis for research purposes from a German engineering student, and it got me thinking that it might provide some insight, or at very least entertainment to some of you guys. Looking back at this I realise that I have learned a LOT since this project, and man o man has the Legend changed since those days.

So here you go if you are interested in this sort of thing.

Team Geronimo at Sea Otter

It's another Sea Otter for the books, but 2010 marked the debut of Team Geronimo at the nation's biggest biking event.

Brian Buell and Graeme Pitts arrived back stateside from competing in the Pan Am Championships in Guatemala just in time to load up the Team Geronimo trailer in the middle of a Sierra blizzard. Michael Buell and Brandon Turman joined them a day later, and the trip to Monterey was underway. Team mate Cody Eichhorn was forced to miss celebrating his birthday at Sea Otter due to an elbow injury earlier in the year which required repeat surgery. He is healing well and due to join the team at the US Open at Diablo Freeride Park in NJ over Memorial Day weekend.

The Team Geronimo/Banshee Bikes tent was conveniently situated right next to the Hayes Bicycle Group tent, and the whole area was abuzz with energy. Banshee Bikes engineer, Keith Scott, Trident Performance Sports and the Canadian Banshee Team joined in the pit, providing good cheer and camaraderie for the entire event. The team and the bikes got a huge amount of attention, with many people getting a chance to try out the team Legend Mk II, Rampant, Amp, Paradox and Spitfire.

This post is a short one, on the way to the Port Angeles Pro Gravity Tour race, which is turning into a mini World Cup race due to the ash from the Icelandic volcano, causing planes to be grounded. The Legendary Keith Scott

For the past week or so I was hanging out with Keith Scott. Keith is Banshee’s Engineer, an avid mountain biker and an all around good guy. For the time that he was in Taiwan we were living together, working together, eating together ….  you get the idea. I think I got to know him a little bit and he probably got to know me a lot better than he wanted to.   After spending four years with the Legend in design and testing Keith wanted to make sure there were no problems during production. He stopped by to hang out and take some measurements. The morning before flying back home a box of Legend rear triangles came out of heat treating. Keith set out to inspect them and I shadowed him with my camera.

Measure, test, talk, rinse repeat … Keith measured everything in that box and then started looking for random things to measure.

 

Not only has Jay relocated to Taiwan to watch over things, Keith comes for random visits to make sure things are just the way he wants them. For everyone who wants a Legend, I have spent the last week immersed in it. And these two have put everything into making this bike a race winning machine. If you do not believe me, get one, race one …
