Camp of champions - camp B

Second week of camp is a wrap and once again it was non stop riding and the best time ever. We had a bunch of campers that were here the year before return so it was great to see how much they improved and to continue coaching them. Anyway enough talk here's another video of what went down in camp B. right now i am in Creston BC for goatstyle then i will be heading back to camp to continue living the good life :)

MBUK at Esher Shore Bike Park, England

MBUK magazine recently visited Esher Shore bike park here in England, UK - to cover the story that the legendary bike park is facing closure as trends have changed and riders are no longer sessioning the "shore"

It's always a privilege to work with Pro Photographer Steve Behr of Stockfile, he's great company and one of the most experienced lensmen in the bike biz!

Of course, as with any photoshoot involving bicycles, the photo's call "can you do it again?" is somewhat galling to a rider who is risking life and limb to huck his bucking bronco off a stunt; of course my Mythic Rampant is far from a bucking bronco, being a very controlled beast of a bike, but you get the idea...dirt = random experiences!

But, with Steve behind the lens, I had the confidence that tweaking the stunt even more, was worth the risk, shown below is the end result

Ladies Only

Have you heard about the new Ladies Only? Well, you have now. It's been re-done, and now it's even more fun that before.
Adam Yunker & thought it would be cool to tribute a small article and some photos the one of the greatest builders and trails of all time.

First roller, wraps around a rock, casual but fun.

My favourite part of the trail.

Look closely and notice that the root is intertwined with the rock work, that is definitely something that a lot of thought and effort was put into.

Hike a Bike

This section was a pain to hike up, suppose I should've waited for the photographer to setup! Oh well it's all in the good spirit of getting the perfect shot!

Coaster Time!

Ladder Bridge roller coaster section, three nice whoops in there, again casual, but tons of fun. Replaced the so called "Shitcoaster".

Riding Blind

Why do I love this shot? It just reminds me of how the trail was for me that day...Blind thanks to the sweat of all the pushing up I had to do!

Reduce, Re-use, Re-Route!

And of course the re-route, biggest change to the trail, Digger did a great thing here and re-used parts of the Shitcoaster to build a bridge around what was the gnarliest and an extremely dangerous part of the trail. Thanks for that buddy!
This trail is one of the best on the shore by far, it encompasses a full skill range. If you want a nice, casual shore ride with lots of ladders, this is your trail. And you can thank Todd "Digger" Fiander for that too. He's been building and pioneering some of the best trails and stunts, he spent two months on Mt. Fromme re-building this trail for all to enjoy. And we are all forever thankful! Thank you Digger for the amazing trail, and all of the other amazing ones.

Giving Back

Greg from Straitline has been building at a place close to their factory for a couple of years. With the help of friends they have been able to build a pretty cool place for the local kids to go and ride.

Progressing left to right the jumps get more difficult. Essentially they have built a park that anyone from a beginner to a pro can ride. Or a park that a beginner can progress to pro level.

Everyone knows Greg by name and has at least one Straitline sticker on their bike. The day I was there he was filming a local rider to post on the parks blog. Community involvement is what makes projects like this one succeed.

So get involved in your local bike club, help with trail building and ride your bike.

Its been awhile

Awhile since I posted anything on the blog. Sorry for that but this season has really hit us. I guess riders are really digging what we’ve been doing and now i’m trying to keep up… its all good and its great to see people having a blast on the stuff.

I did get a few days off which I can’t say was too cool. I hit a truck on my motorcycle that decided to do a U –turn infront of me and spent a few days in hospital … after a 16meter skid to scrub off the 90k I was going - i figure I hit him doing about 50k. Its quite strange in that it’s so similar to a mountain bike crash where everything slows down and you know that if your bike could just brake a little faster you wouldn’t be sliding head first into that tree [truck]. hahaha.

I figure a broken hand, torn up right knee with nerve damage, and a torn tricep muscle was a small price to pay considering it could have been much worse. I got lucky I guess and my experience riding bikes I think really helps on the road to.

Unfortunately I will miss racing in Malaysia but I have 2 weeks to get my camera button pressing finger back in action so at least i can pretend to be media. Its going to be a lot of fun either way because Gig and gang are coming from Thailand, Nick, Rizal and the whole Fakawi Tribe will be there and Darren and Ryan from Barspin in Australia are flying up to race.

Its probably also going to be bloody hot and with the bugs… could be uncomfortable but hey they have Deet 90 bug spray… i didn’t even know that stuff existed and its probably highly illegal in Canada but the stuff works so well. I guess you gotta pick your poison… get the Dengue fever or glow in the dark at night from the Deet 90 coursing through you.

What i am most looking forward to is going back to eat curry off a banana leaf with my hands… it was sooooo good.

Second trip lined up for the year will be Eurobike. If you will be attending or can make it for the consumer day, definitely come by and see us. We’ll have the crew there… rob, keith and me.

This is also a favorite trip too… the beer, the breads, and meats sooooo good. I know Rob will leave happy… he’s very fond of the german sausage.

I’ve been living in Taiwan since October and while I have to forgo somethings from home, one of those things i DONT need to forgo is being able to watch the Tour de France. Happily surfing through the channels I stumbled upon the tour at the 36km left to go mark, and now i get to watch every stage. Just because we do mountain bikes doesn’t mean we don’t love everything cycling and behind every good mountain biker is a guy whose out training on the road… I know I’ve personally clocked in 1000s of miles, done a few centuries, and had some memorable times on my road bike.

Anyway gotta run… back to making bikes for you guys!

Alan Hepburn – COC Coach

I had a chance to hang out and ride with Camp of Champions Coach and Team Banshee Rider Alan Hepburn while I was in Whistler last week. From his videos I knew that he could ride dirt jumps, but what I did not know was that he could rip it on the downhill too.

On his Legend he has an aggressive and smooth riding style. He is also good at taking the extra time to explain how it should be done. And will ride a berm or section of trail until everyone gets a chance to see him ride it.

He kills it on the dirt jumps too. A do it all coach that fits in great with the Camp of Champions and Banshee Bikes. Look for him at Whistler with a group of campers trying to keep up with him or getting in one last set of jumps before the sun goes down.

Ace Hayden in Whistler

Summer has been super sick so far, meeting tons of new people and shredding whistler everyday. This weekend coming up I will be at the Canadian National Championships in Invermere at Panorama. Super stoked to head there and ride for a few days as Ive only heard great things about that resort. Looking to get a good result and have a good time with some friends and camp in the parking lot for a couple days! Ill post up some updates if I can poach internet from the lucky ones with hotel rooms! Also going to set up some photoshoots on the mountain with some photographers from around whistler so I look forward to getting that done. Heres a photo of a rock drop onto some more rocks on schleyer that I poached from a photographers site!



So I just recently moved to whistler with my buddies John Rempel and Justin Wyper. So far its super sick but the rain could definitely slow down anytime now, trails are kinda dusty so I dont mind really. Super stoked to progress my riding and send it with my homies. Also got to meet Rob the other day in the lift line for the first time, Nice guy! A tube sponsor would be sick cause $16 dollar 10 pound tubes might be the death of me...



Heres a photo of me that I poached from some dudes site, this is just after I ate shit first run of the day and sent my bike 40 feet into the woods off a berm... i blame the swamp things on hard packed trails with slime on top.
