Crankworx Canadian Open Enduro 2010

Hey everyone,
Keith asked me to do this ages ago, but a broken left wrist has had me a little preoccupied the last month so better late than never!

Just a quick race report aboard my 2010 Banshee Rune, which I raced in the Whistler Crankworx enduro DH.

Weighing up the bike options coming into this event wasn't to hard. Do I take the Dh bike, as the majority of the course was gnarly downhill, and loose out on the up hills or take the trail bike that could easily hammer uphill without really compromising the downhills? The Rune was the bike for the job and with the addition of some dh tubes, 2.5 minions and a very last minute home made chain guide (garden hose and cable ties!) the night before things stayed pretty much stock.

The race saw us mass start at the top of the Whistler Bike Park just behind the Chic Pea building straight into a short uphill to the top of the Gabanzo chairlift then funnelling into what ended up being the majority of the Garbanzo race track. They through in a heap of punchy uphill fire road climbs that made you want to cry then back into more gnarly downhill. Some people opted of their full DH bikes, others on shorter travel trail bikes, the Rune had the best of both worlds. This race was only 2 days after I raced in the Garbanzo Downhill, where I just missed out on the top 10 with 11th on my Banshee Legend mkII. Trust me there was a lot of times I forgot I was on my Rune coming into sections wayyyyy to hot, only to remember mid air tighten my butt cheeks and hang on. I came out of every section with a smile I was having so much fun on it. Apart from a wrong turn and having to run back up the hill, thanks to some missing course making tape and a screaming Marshall, not one bike drama to be had, everything worked out really well. I finished in 1st place in Senior Men's with a time of 23:03, 33seconds clear of 2nd place. Stoked!! Two days later with the xc tires back on, it went back to its normal duties as my daily trail bike, easy as that!

Looks like I wont be riding again till next summer thanks to the wrist, so make the most of whats left of the awesome fall conditions and ill see you all next summer!!!

Antoine at the Rampage

Just got these links from Alex from France.
Looks like Antoine has been scoping out lines and getting ready for his big day.
I just got finished reading this http://www.pinkbike.com/news/red-bull-rampage-course-preview-2010.html and was shitting my pants just reading it... how do you launch yourself off stuff like that. All these guys must have huge cahone's that constantly get caught in the spokes... really this is insane. My hope is we see an awesome event, injury free, and that the spectacle that is the Redbull Rampage continues on year after year.

The Trip from France to the USA.

Other photos of the Interbike bikes

Thanks Devon Balet for these sick shots. It was cool as we set up to take the pics but the booth background just wasn't working out ok. So we found some black carpet and the black walls of the media booth at interbike and armed with all his gear and gadgets Devon made the best of it. We need to do a bit better job of photoshop to clean up the background where the carpet meets the walls as there is a bit of a white line that sticks out but that should be easy.
Anyway just thought i'd share.

Mount Joyce MTB Park - Queensland

Ben Power (Team Banshee Australia) was invited to ride with world renowned downhill champion Nathan Rennie recently on the first trail completed within the latest mountain bike park facility in Queensland Australia. Funding for the construction of the recreational park located within the Wyaralong Dam site at Boonah south of Brisbane includes a full on MTB facility consisting of 2-3 downhill tracks, 40km of cross country tracks, a point to point Enduro track and a 4X track came from the Queensland Government through Queensland Water Infrastructure and amounted to $1.5m.

The MTB trails are being constructed by Two Wheel Promotions (Bill Van Haren) and World Trails (Glenn Jacobs) with technical input from Nathan Rennie. The purpose of the ride by Nathan and Ben was to produce a video to be used in the marketing program of the great facility which is due to open to the public in early 2011.

The trail featured in this video is the first completed which is a blue grade downhill track. The video was captured by a local film company and it is understood that there were journalists/photographers from several MTB magazines present taking photos and doing interviews with the constructors. Ben was riding his Banshee Rune' (older model which he tells me needs replacing!!) and Nathan was on his Santa Cruz Nomad.

Anyway, enjoy the video - it has been well edited.

If you have seen a web edit or pictures of guys jumping in Kelowna there is a good chance that Dustin had a hand in building the jump.
