Paul's Recent Trip to Vancouver

On spring break here in Fernie B.C, the entire town is still in ski-mode, and the mention of biking is not a common thing. Meanwhile my brother (Nic) and I are planning ways to escape the snow and search for spring. After some thought on locations, we decided to head down to Surrey and stay with our friend Anthony Messere for 5 days, while still getting back to Kelowna for Harrison Mendels birthday jam on the weekend.

After driving a long 12 hours to Vancouver, we arrived at Anthonys house. It was raining out so we decided to check out all the spots we were planning on shooting on the week to follow. That night we ended up going to bed early to wake up bright and early to shoot the next day.
The next morning we went to the ferry terminal to pick up photographer/ filmer Mike Zinger, and he spent the next day with us getting some amazing shots and clips. Big thanks to Mike for helping!
The first spot we went to was a Sand Stepup called ABA, and this was a fun session because It was my first jump that I had hit since October. Anthony was killing it all day, which made us all really stoked to shred.
We ended up riding about 5 different spots that were all about 15-20 mins away from Anthonys house, which made me realize how amazing Vancouver is!
One spot i really liked was Clark Whites house, where we filmed and rode the most out of the week.

Oh and Nic got VoD with the edit of the trip!!

Winter Outside, Paul Takes it Inside

Hey guys,

Seeing how its winter here still, I have been craving riding my bike since October. Anyways, inside the restaurant I work in there is a skateshop, and that shop has a mini ramp and quarter pipe setup. I was a little skeptical about bringing my mountain bike into a tiny little halfpipe made for skateboards haha. But it is actually pretty fun and I managed to get a few pictures on my Iphone 4 of the action ( or lack-of).

Goat Style 2010

I posted around 90 unedited pictures on Pinkbike.com last night. You can check them out here. http://home-team.pinkbike.com/album/Goat-Style-2010/

In the next couple of days I will pick the ones that I like the most and crop and edit them. I took over 1000 pictures, deleted them down to two or three hundred and then pick the ones that I thought were the best and then posted them.

I had a great time in Creston I got to see a bunch of friends that I have not seen in a while and got to watch some amazing riding from a lot of Banshee, Straitline and Geax riders. There is an awesome group of guys sponsored by all three companies.

Have to give a shout out to the guys at Geax for the shade, water, stickers and pizza. You guys rock …

It was a great weekend, Team Rider Mike Montgomery finished second behind Greg Watts with a run that could have easily been judged as a first placed run. Casey Groves had the run of the day going until he slipped a pedal.

I was personally most impressed by Fernie’s Paul Genovese. He was the youngest competitor to make it through qualifying. He had great solid first runs and then tried something new on his second runs. If he can keep progressing he will have a bright future in the industry.

More to come in the next couple of days. Jack and Allan killed it, I just have to find the pictures for them.

Classic Combination

I was wondering around and I found these pictures that Nic Genovese took and it got me to thinking about classic combinations …

p4pb5147400[1]

There are things that we associate together with out really thinking about it. Like peanut butter and jam, milk and cookies or Ernie and Bert … before Ernie got hit by that bus. Urban Legend or not the Sesame Street has never been the same for me. My classic combination for the 2010 riding season is not purple and white … it is Paul and Nic Genovese.

Aeron Learmonth’s Super Post

We have some new grassroots riders this season. I will introduce them later in the month when their bikes have all been finished. I sent an email out this week asking that they start using the Banshee Team Blog. Paul Genovese posted, Nic Genovese posted for Brandon Hayward and an awesome edit of Dustin Greenall. Then this morning I noticed a new post from Aeron Learmonth … it was three or four weeks worth of posts all mashing into one. Click here to read the whole post. There are a couple cool videos in there, you might want a snack and something to drink.

My favorite video from Aeron Learmonth May Marathon Blog is below. Check it out …

Paul Genovese 2009

Paul Genovese is a 15 year old from my home town; Fernie, British Columbia. When I was home in the summer I first started hearing stories from the 13 year old dirt jumpers, then I asked some friends about him and they all described him the same way a quiet, young local with great style and bike control. I met him and his brother Nic (who is pretty good with a camera) at the local dirt jumps and I had to agree with my friends. Paul is a  super nice guy who does not say a lot and knows how to ride a bike. Watch out for him in 2010 …
